Well...That Didn't Go According to Plan

When I launched this website over a year ago, I had BIG plans. So many plans...

I was going to keep the website updated. I was going to regularly add new jewelry. I was going to take beautiful photos. I was going to post on social media consistently. And I was definitely going to write blog posts.

I was going to behave like someone who actually knew what she was doing with a small creative business...HA! But...life happened.

My creative attention span wandered off without adult supervision...right into watercolor, and mandalas, and zentangle art.

Well...fuck.

A self portrait of my brain...
A self portrait of my brain...

I didn't plan on becoming obsessed with watercolor. I bought a few paints. Then some more. I played, I failed, I succeeded. I bought more paints, experimented with different papers, and SQUIRREL! saw someone talk about fun with high flow acrylics and so I got some of those too. I have brushes, and PENS...so many pens, and watercolor pencils, and an entire cart to hold all of these approximately 47 other things I needed for this new hobby. It's a permanent fixture in my living room now. It's the art-cart. I've secretly named her Stella. It's a nod to a song by one of my fav's - David Gray "Stella the Artist".

Meet Stella...
Meet Stella...

Anywhoo...I digress...

I've been painting, experimenting, "wasting supplies" because some really smart person on the internet said the only supplies that are wasted are supplies that aren't being used.

At some point, while wandering down this rabbit hole I've started making some things I'm really proud of. I've hung my own art on my own walls and that's just fun.

My very first mandala. 22 inches in diameter. She's a beast. I had NO plan...I figured if I ended up hating it, I'd just make another one.

I've made little projects and I've tacked really big projects. My latest - which I've been obsessing over for the past 3 months - is a 25-inch custom clock for a friend, featuring an ouroboros. More on that to come...

Very early on in the process - stay tuned for the finished clock!!

I still love wire. I still love making jewelry. I still get stupidly happy when someone stops at my booth because a pair of Tiny Dancer earrings made them smile, or when someone finds a piece they love.

None of that is going away.

But...apparently there's more stuff rattling around in my creative brain that wants out. I'm calling this craziness Wire & Water Studio. I don't know what it's going to become yet. Maybe it just becomes another creative endeavor...Another ship that fails to fully launch...much like this website.(lol) Maybe I'll change my mind six months from now.

I'm trying hard not to demand that it have a business plan all figured out before I'm allowed to enjoy it. Because...life is TOO damn short to not have fun making art.

So, that's where I've been.

Shitty at updating this website. Shitty at blogging.

But I haven't stopped creating. Quite the opposite! I've been learning. Experimenting. Making some really cool shit. Making some pretty terrible shit. Buying entirely too many art supplies. And finding an entirely new creative direction I never saw coming.

We'll see where this goes.

And maybe...MAYBE...it won't take me another fucking year to write another blog post.

No promises.
